Without goals we would wander around aimlessly. Goals are the roadmap of our success. They guide us and help us get from point A to point B. They help us see where we are headed.
To make it easy for me to organize I set my goals up in 3 categories, Alpha, Bravo and Charlie.
The Alpha list are the ones that I need to do every day. For me that are things like, return phone calls and emails, plan for classes, clean school and anything that has to be done on a daily basis in both my personal and life as a martial arts school owner. I usually write these down before I go to bed at night. It gives me a plan of attack for the next day.
The Bravo list for me are monthly/quarterly goals. I save these for things like setting up facebook posts, how many gym workouts do I want to get in, what are the upcoming seminars I need to plan out, and what is my travel schedule. Things that will make our lives better over the next 4 to 6 weeks.
Finally the Charlie list. These are our annual goals. Where do I want to be this time next year. These are the ones I set big. Big goals will produce big results. I usually handwrite these on one of my yellow note pads and keep them on my desk. I read them all the time and check on my progress.
As with any goals there are setbacks. Sometimes things don’t go our way. But, we need to plan for that too.
Back in the day I used to make a “Plan B”. A back up plan. I no longer do that. Doing this is setting you up for failure. You are telling yourself this goal might not be achievable, so just in case, here is something else to shoot for. It’s giving in to a failure mindset.
I changed my mindset. If I have a goal, I will find a way to make it work. There is always a way. Keep working toward what you want. You will get there!
As the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says, “Be humble, be hungry, and always be the hardest worker in the room”. Apply this to your goals and the skies the limit!
