Is violent crime on the rise? Or is it just that media is everywhere?
We get news on TV. We get it on our phones, iPads, & laptops. Its everywhere.
And it’s not always good news. Actually it rarely is.
I saw a few weeks back about a jogger in Memphis TN, being kidnapped and killed and it got me thinking.
I am in a perfect position to stop this from happening. Maybe one of the 1000’s of things I have learned over the years could save someones life.
I decided to do something and put what I know out into the public. We are going to do a 4 week self defense seminar at Synergy Martial Arts in Odenton.
But more on that later…
First, I wanted to write a blog post that will get you thinking. Maybe give you some tips about how to avoid being in a bad spot in the first place.
So here are three ways you can avoid being attacked. What you can do to help yourself from being in a bad situation.
Always Park Under A Light
Seems kind of basic. You are probably thinking, “Is this all he can come up with”?
But, think about it. You go into the mall and its light out. You park wherever you can find an open spot.
I mean seriously, how hard is it to find a spot at Arundel Mills this time of year. And with the holidays, it’s going to get worse.
Park under or near a light. Make sure its a well lit area so you can see what is around you.
A potential attacker is less likely to bother you where there is tons of lights and cameras.
Did I say cameras?
Yes I did. Most of those light posts have cameras on them. The closer you are to the camera the better look at the face you can get. Plus, the light makes their face even more visible.
Not a great place for a potential attacker to hang out.
When Walking Alone Be Prepared!
This is something we all over look. We get comfortable. Used to our surroundings.
Its our neighborhood. We all know the people there. And they are all nice.
Yes, but people that want to do you harm can come into your neighborhood. As a matter of fact it happens quite a bit.
When you go out for a walk or jog in the morning or at night take your apple watch and your phone.
If someone approaches you, dial 911 on your phone and leave it open so the person on the other end can track your location and hear the conversation.
Carry pepper spray in your pocket or on your keychain. A good shot of that could stun your attacker, if even for a second, it gives you an opportunity to run.
Dont get so caught up in your music and morning routine that you forget to know who is around you. Walking toward you. Or behind you.
Have 360 awareness. Know what is going on in every direction.
If you have a bad feeling, trust your gut. Its usually right.
Don’t Be A Victim, Fight!
If you do get attacked. Fight like hell.
Don’t quit. Bite, claw, kick and scream. Fight dirty if you have to.
If someone tries to take you somewhere their intentions are not good. Don’t go at any and all costs.
Get it in your head that you will win if someone attacks you.
Take a self defense class and review what you learned. Make sure it becomes muscle memory. Don’t hesitate. Do something.
I hope that this little bit of information helps you to change your thinking just a little.
BTW, here is the link to our upcoming 4 week Womens Self Defense Seminar.
We are going to cover some basic strikes and kicks as well as self defense tactics against common attacks, gun and knife defense and even how to escape an attacker that takes you to the ground or tries to take you somewhere else.
Be Safe!!!
